Billy Evans, Elizabeth Holmes' husband, joins the All-In hosts to discuss their unconventional relationship, the trial, her conviction, and his new company. Evans met Holmes in October 2017 at a party during the height of negative press about Theranos, before her indictment. Despite the media narrative portraying her as a manipulative fraudster, Evans describes a deeply caring person who listened intently and possessed childlike wonder. They became friends for six months before dating, then moved through an eight-month RV journey while she prepared for trial. Holmes was convicted on four counts of fraud related to defrauding investors (she was acquitted on patient fraud counts), and sentenced to 11.25 years. Evans emphasizes that staying silent under the judge's directive not to litigate in media was Holmes' biggest mistake, as her power lay in telling her own story. The couple has two children born during the trial and appeals process. A new documentary by Nathan Fielder offers an intimate look at Holmes as a person rather than relitigating the case. Evans is now building Hemanthes, a company using Raman spectroscopy for diagnostic sensors—not "Theranos 2.0" as press reports suggest—and is focused on reducing his wife's sentence through the First Step Act while managing restitution obligations of $435 million.
